You have worked with a lot of famous people over the years. What do celebrities know about clothing that the average person doesn't?
 | First of all, everything they know can be learned by the average person. But most people in the public eye recognize the importance of knowing the fundamentals of colors, fabrics, style, and fit. If they don't know their vital stats, they hire someone who does. They buy quality clothing and have it professionally altered to have a flattering line; they rotate their wardrobe to make it last and to always excite; and they keep it clean and crisp. They know when to dress — and what to dress in.

How can a person dress really well on a limited budget?
 | I always look at the big picture and, as usual, wish to address the core of the problem. There are many ways to stretch a budget. Savvy shopping means having a working knowledge of fabrics (knowing which fabrics last, which clean well, and which will withstand the riggers of work or travel), making the best of sales, and always buying quality clothing. "Sales" can often be misleading; there are gems out there, but they must be mined. A bargain is only a bargain when quality is part of the package. A bargain is not a bargain if you don't wear it, if it doesn't fit, and if you don't love it! If you want to make the most of each shopping experience, have a plan. Don't "wing it" when you're on a budget, and if you're trying to build a quality wardrobe, shy away from spontaneous purchases because they are usually not a good investment. |
